At CWImports, we supply Australian-made Snatch Straps designed to meet the rigorous demands of today’s large machinery. It’s important to remember that all straps have their limitations, so choosing the correct size is essential based on what’s bogged and the available towing horsepower.
General Guidelines for Strap Sizing:
- 16,000Kg strap – Suitable for up to 135Hp towing
- 26,000Kg strap – Suitable for up to 220Hp towing
- 50,000Kg strap – Suitable for up to 330Hp towing
- 60,000Kg strap – Suitable for up to 380Hp towing
- 75,000Kg strap – Suitable for up to 480Hp towing (wheeled)
- 100,000Kg strap – Suitable for up to 550Hp tracked or 600Hp wheeled towing
- 150,000Kg strap – Suitable for up to 700Hp tracked towing
Each strap is engineered to release at the weakest point—the end of the stitching at the loop. Straps that snap elsewhere or tear have likely been damaged due to improper use, such as:
- Getting caught on a drawbar instead of pulling directly on a pin
- Wrapping around axles with shackles that cut the strap
- Improper towing rather than using the snatch technique
Soft Shackles for Enhanced Safety
We’ve added Soft Shackles to our product line to enhance user safety by eliminating the need for steel shackles. Along with soft shackles, we also offer bridles and axle straps, ensuring safe and secure attachment points for your snatch strap to the stuck machine. As with all equipment, it’s vital to match the gear to the horsepower being applied.
Strap vs. Chain: Why Straps Are the Safer Choice
Accidents often occur when chains are used instead of properly rated straps. The weight comparison is striking:
- A 50,000Kg snatch strap (9 meters) weighs 11.5kg, while an equivalent chain weighs 80kg
- A 75,000Kg snatch strap (9 meters) weighs 18kg, while an equivalent chain weighs 136kg
- A 100,000Kg snatch strap (9 meters) weighs 24kg, while an equivalent chain weighs 207kg
Important Notes on Shackles
Recent legislation changes have increased the recommended size for all shackles used with straps and bridles. Although there is currently no legislation in Australia covering soft shackles, it’s recommended to follow the guideline of using a shackle rated at 2-3 times the breaking strength of the strap being used.
For additional guidance, refer to our diagram on proper snatch strap, bridle, and axle strap placement.

Why Choose Our Snatch Straps?
✓ Heavy-Duty
✓ Long-Lasting
✓ Australian Manufactured
✓ Custom Options Available
Trusted by Australian farmers for nearly 20 years, Central Wheatbelt Imports are known for their superior product quality.
We have been supplying locally manufactured snatch straps since 2016. Spanning from 16-tonne to 150-tonne snatch-straps, our range caters for trucks, tractors, heavy machinery and four-wheel-drives.
We can also have snatch straps and tow straps custom-made to your exact requirements, usually within two-five working days as long as manufacturer has webbing.
Treated properly and stored clean and dry, these straps are an investment that will last a long time.
We continually receive great feed-back on the quality and durability of these straps. The most common comment we hear is that operators don’t get as stuck (trying to get themselves out), as having a strap on hand which makes extracting bogged machines a much easier and simpler task and in most instances, a much smaller towing tractor is required.
Purchase snatch straps from your local dealer, online, or call us on (08) 9335 2700 to discuss your custom requirements.
How Do Snatch Straps Work?
Snatch straps are constructed from nylon. When used to recover a stuck vehicle, the kinetic energy stored in the strap whilst under tension generates an improved pulling power for extracting the bogged vehicle.
Not only do the straps assist the vehicle recovery itself, but they also reduce the risk of vehicle damage during the recovery process.
While snatch straps are highly effective in recovery operations, they can also be highly dangerous if not used correctly. Make sure you are using the right straps for your machinery and be sure to follow the instructions carefully, to avoid accidents and injury.
A snatch strap is not designed for towing and should never be used for this purpose. Towing straps are manufactured from polyester and do not stretch.
