Snatch Straps and Soft Shackles

CWImports supply Australian Made Snatch Straps that are designed to meet the demands of today’s large machinery. Remember all straps have their limitations and the correct sized strap must be used to suit what is bogged and to the towing horsepower available.

A rough Rule of Thumb
16,000Kg strap up to 135Hp towing
26,000Kg strap up to 220Hp towing
50,000Kg strap up to 330Hp towing
60,000Kg strap up to 380Hp towing
75,000Kg strap up to 480Hp towing wheeled
100,000Kg strap up to 550Hp Tracked or 600Hp towing wheeled
150,000Kg strap up to 700Hp towing tracked
All straps however have their limits. Our straps are manufactured to let go at the weakest link which is at the end of the stitching of the loop.
Straps that snap anywhere else or are torn have been damaged by misadventure or improper use, ie; strap getting caught on drawbar and not pulling directly on pin, strap is wrapped around axle with a shackle through end of loop back onto strap, pulling tight and cutting on edge or simply by towing and not snatching.

We have also added Soft Shackles to our range of products to increase the safety factor for users by eliminating steel shackles.

We supply bridals and axle straps or soft shackles to ensure the safe attachment of the snatch strap to the stuck machine. Again, all equipment being used should be rated to the horsepower being applied.

Please consider carefully the size of the snatch strap being used to what is stuck, including the suction effect to the amount of pulling horsepower, traction, load and conditions.

A lot of accidents happen with CHAINS and the main reason being is that people are not using large enough chains to suit the operation.
A 50,000Kg 9Mt snatch strap weighs 11.5kg, an equivalent strength chain will weigh 8.8Kg per metre, so 80Kg total
A 75,000Kg 9Mt snatch strap weighs 18kg, an equivalent strength chain will weigh 15.1Kg per metre, so 136Kg total
A 100,000Kg 9Mt snatch strap weighs 24kg, an equivalent strength chain will weigh 23Kg per metre, so 207Kg total
The above is a sobering thought!

Please note that recent legislation changes have increased the recommended size on all shackles being used on straps and bridles.

Please note; There is currently no legislation in Australia covering soft shackles. It is recommended to follow the metal shackle recommendation of choosing a shackle 2-3X breaking strength of the strap being used.

Why Choose Our Snatch Straps?

✓ Heavy-Duty

✓ Long-Lasting

✓ Australian Manufactured

✓ Custom Options Available

Trusted by Australian farmers for nearly 20 years, Central Wheatbelt Imports are known for their superior product quality.

We have been supplying locally manufactured snatch straps since 2016. Spanning from 16-tonne to 150-tonne snatch-straps, our range caters for trucks, tractors, heavy machinery and four-wheel-drives.

We can also have snatch straps and tow straps custom-made to your exact requirements, usually within two-five working days as long as manufacturer has webbing.

Treated properly and stored clean and dry, these straps are an investment that will last a long time.

We continually receive great feed-back on the quality and durability of these straps.  The most common comment we hear is that operators don’t get as stuck (trying to get themselves out), as having a strap on hand which makes extracting bogged machines a much easier and simpler task and in most instances, a much smaller towing tractor is required.

Purchase snatch straps from your local dealer, online, or call us on (08) 9335 2700 to discuss your custom requirements.

How Do Snatch Straps Work?

Snatch straps are constructed from nylon. When used to recover a stuck vehicle, the kinetic energy stored in the strap whilst under tension generates an improved pulling power for extracting the bogged vehicle.

Not only do the straps assist the vehicle recovery itself, but they also reduce the risk of vehicle damage during the recovery process.

While snatch straps are highly effective in recovery operations, they can also be highly dangerous if not used correctly. Make sure you are using the right straps for your machinery and be sure to follow the instructions carefully, to avoid accidents and injury.

A snatch strap is not designed for towing and should never be used for this purpose. Towing straps are manufactured from polyester and do not stretch.
